ANOTHER SEASON HAS ENDED

As most of you know I am the Head Coach for the Lady Jet Volleyball Team. Our season has come to a close with the League Tournament played Monday afternoon. It has been a joy to coach former first graders! My little bumbles have been very kind and patient this season to share me with the Junior High. I'm a pretty lucky coach and teacher to have the best of all at Wakefield School!

ASSESSMENT WEEK

This week the children are taking a reading assessment skills test for Level 1.2. There are no NEW spelling words. I will be testing the children on review words from this level on Friday. This is a performance test so that I can find out how many of the words the children are really retaining. We are about finished checking the vocabulary from this level. The children are doing an awesome job! A BIG THANK YOU to the parents for helping your child practice words at home and listening to them read! Your support is paying off! A treat this week is NO HOMEWORK...the children are loving that!

TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY

LIFT groups have been meeting daily since September 24. My group and Mrs. Koerner's group are working on digraphs. Digraphs are 2 letters that go together to make one sound. Here is a game that will reinforce the "ck" ending we use with words. The first graders recently had spelling words with this sound. In Math we are working on addition. These math games will help your child use their counting on skills. The children have enjoyed learning about Christopher Columbus this week. The first website posted is a video which we watched in the classroom. Did you know that Christopher Columbus' first trip he had 90 sailors and that his ships were not very big. They were about the size of a tennis court!

BOOK IT

Pizza Hut is once again offering the Reading incentive program for our students. Information was sent home on Friday. Our goal to earn a free personal pizza is that your child will read for 200 min. this month. Fill out the minutes read on the log sheet and return at the end of the month. I highly encourage our first graders to participate in the Reading Book It Club. Anytime we can put books into the hands of our children good things will happen. I wish for my students the love of reading! What an adventure it can be.....snuggle up with a good book and your child!

AUTUMN BEAUTY

Autumn in the mountains is one of my favorite times of the year! I told the children that I saw Santa's reindeer. I even brought back one of Santa's reindeer bells! We spent 4 days in Estes Park for Elk Fest. If you've never heard an elk bugle it is the most amazing experience. The aspen trees are just beautiful. It's the peak time for Autumn in the Rocky Mountains! Click here to learn more about Elk Fest!

FALL FEST IN THE COLORADO ROCKIES

Coach Seirer and I are home after a trip to see the colors and hear the sounds of autumn in the Rocky Mountains. Our trip was very refreshing and relaxing. I thought of the children often and brought back some surprises for them. Ask your child about my "Bear Hat". The children had fun today making leaf rubbings using the Aspen leaves. Hope you enjoyed the beautiful picture your child made for you!
