Johnny Appleseed

The children are learning about a folk hero named John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed. Johnny journeyed west in 1800 with his pockets full of apple seeds. Born in Massachusetts on September 26, 1774, Chapman was a practical nurseryman. He spent nearly 50 years planting orchards and supplying seedlings to pioneer farmers in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Some of the trees he planted still bear fruit.

READING AT THE NURSING HOME

What a joy it is to take the children to the nursing home to share their gift of reading! The First Graders will read to the grandmas and grandpas one time each month. The children did a wonderful job Friday. We look forward to many more visits this year!

PROGRESS REPORTS

The school calendar says that today is "Progress Report Day". I have been informed that the office will not be sending out mid-nine weeks reports. They will send end of nine week reports. The 1st nine weeks ends on Thursday, October 21. Please continue to check the Powerschool website regularly for updates on your child's progress. Today I have made a copy of your child's report and they are bringing it home for you to view. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. Also, if you do not have internet access at home, let me know and I'll make the reports available to you with a hard copy. Thank you so much for your support the last 24 days of school. It takes a team to be successful and I'm so fortunate to have you on our team!

Take the opportunity to spend some time with your grandparent, give them a call and let them know how special they are! HAPPY GRANDPARENTS DAY!
