"Promise me you'll always remember...."

FAREWELL LITTLE BUMBLES

I’m glad I was your teacher
I’ve come to love you so.
I can’t bee-lieve the end is here.
It’s time I let you spread your
Wings and soar.
You’re such a star
And I love you so dearly.
You put the buzz in my life
I mean that sincerely.
Remember all the fun we had
In all the things we did.
But, most of all remember..
It’s the belief in ourselves that
Helps us take flight!
Love, Mrs. Seirer

SUMMER READING PROGRAM

This summer’s reading theme is “Dream Big – READ!”, and it was inspired by the concept of night and all that nighttime brings. Night is a time to dream, to wish on shooting stars, of bedtime stories, and things that explore the night – think bats, owls, and other nocturnal animals! Let’s explore and celebrate all things night related as we Dream Big and read together this summer!

Children learn best when their learning is not interrupted. And summer vacation is a long interruption. Without practice, children forget facts and important, "how to" skills. They fall behind because they don't practice this skills daily. Avoid the summer slide by taking your child to the library! It is proven that reading at least 8 books can create a bridge between June and August. Please take advantage of the opportunities at our public library! Sign up for the summer reading program and attend the storytimes. Plan to beat the "Summer Slide"!

TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY

Today is our last day to visit the computer lab! The children always look forward to "Technology Thursday". I hope during the summer that they will revisit the hive and play some of their favorite games. Over the summer it is good to stay in touch with learning activities so that by the beginning of second grade they still have some knowledge of material learned. If I could recommend one skill to work on over the summer it would be mastery of addition and subtraction facts. Encourage your child to practice math facts! Keep in touch with writing by keeping a summer journal of fun activities. I promise to answer any emails or letters sent! Until next year.....wishing you many sunshine days!

BIKE SAFETY

Thank you to the Pilot Ladies from Clay Center for helping the first graders learn about bicycle safety. A group of 3 Pilot members presented an entertaining puppet show for the children. The presentation stressed the importance of keeping our brains safe by wearing a helmet. A drawing was held for a bike helmet and Noah Freeman was the winner! I hope the children will always remember to wear a helmet and be aware of traffic when riding a bicycle!

ZOO TRIP

The First Graders enjoyed a wonderful day at the Sunset Zoo in Manhattan. Thank you to our PTO for supporting the children and funding our trip! The Discovery Program was a wonderful learning experience!

TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY

The children have been learning about Measurement in Math. They've used inches and centimeters rulers to explore length. I have found these websites that give extra support in measuring.

BACK FROM DISNEYLAND

We're never to old to go to Disneyland! Just returned from a trip to California where I took my 27 year old daughter to the happiest place on earth! We met Mickey, Minnie and all the Disney Princesses! What an adventure we had! I'm so excited to share the memories with the children. I truly wish that someday every child could go to the land where dreams do come true!

TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY

Math Fact Drill
I hope your child will have the opportunity to play a math fact game online. Here's a great site that you can have your child try out:
THAT'S A FACT .

Any fact drill time the children get will enhance their success in mastering number facts. Thank you very much for working with your child!
