TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY

We're heading into the computer on Thursday, September 1. Here are a few websites that the children will be working with. The first game in the Math group is very challenging. It even had me stumped a few times. A favorite reading sound game is the phonic fighter. Try them out at home!

TECHNOLOGY THURSDAYS

On Thursdays the children will be able to explore websites for math and reading on the computers in the high school computer lab. I will post sites each week that you may check out at home with your child. A favorite is the 100 Number Chart. The children may color number patterns on the chart. The boys will love the connect the dot car game. Number sequence is another great review. We played the letter sound review game in the classroom. It is an excellent game to review sounds. Clifford makes everything fun....try the Phonics Sound game. Here are the links to a few sites that we will work with this week.

HOMEWORK TIPS

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I will be sending home a page of homework for the students to complete. Mondays will focus on phonics, Wednesdays are grammar days, and Fridays are math review. Points will be taken as to accuracy and if work is completed on time. As the curriculum picks up it is so important that your child review and practice skills they are learning. I also want my students to learn a life skill of being responsible and accountable. Here is a link to an awesome webpage that gives helpful hints with how to help your child with homework. The road to success requires a team working together to ensure the best for your child. Thank you for being part of the team and playing your part in your child's learning adventure!

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome to the Hive! At this site you can read about our exciting news. I will be posting several times a week...so please check back in often! Click to follow our blog and this way you should be receiving updates. Looks like we'll have 14 in first grade. There is always new students enrolling. As of today I'm looking for 14 new little bumbles to join our hive. 7 girls and 7 boys! We are to get new desks! They should be arriving anytime. I've taught here 31 years and never had new desks. I'm really excited!

I've been busy making lists and organizing materials for the new year. This year we will be implementing the Core Curriculum in Reading and Math. We will be exploring deeper into the skills taught until mastery is met. Our students in Grade One will be receiving letter grades in the subject areas of Reading, Math, Spelling and Language Arts. The first progress report will be sent on September 14th. Conferences are on the calendar for the evenings of October 24th and 25th. Please take note that on Monday, August 22 you are invited to our All School Open House at 7:00 p.m. You may come and meet your child's teachers and visit their classes.

I will send home a packet for parents on our first day of school. Please look over the letters and return any documents that need to be filled out. I'll be looking for parents to help with parties this year! Your child should have received a letter from me inviting them to my Open Class time on Wednesday, August 17 from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. Hope you can stop in and help your child put their supplies away. This sure makes our first day go smoothly. Looking forward to getting to know everyone. For some, I've taught other children in your family. For others, this is your first child in Grade One! WELCOME TO THE FIRST GRADE HIVE! We're going to have a fantastic year!

SUMMER MEMORIES

Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Seirer

Mrs. Seirer at Mt. Rushmore

Tyson and Mrs. Seirer hiking in Colorado

Greetings to all my new and previous students! I hope you have all had an enjoyable summer. Our summer started off with a grand celebration of our son’s wedding. Marcus married his high school sweetheart Faith Miller. Both were my students in first grade many years ago! My husband and I have been traveling and seeing all kinds of new sites. We visited a state that I've never been to! In South Dakota we saw Mt. Rushmore and explored a gold mine. The Black Hills are amazing! Coach Seirer and I just got back from Estes Park, Colorado where our family has a summer home. Our children joined us for fun times hiking and fishing. I was able to spend time on the family farm and help with harvest. It will be only a short time until our first day in the hive! Enjoy what is left of your summer vacation and I’ll see you all soon!
