TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY

The excitement is building in our class for celebrating the 100th Day of School. We are having so much fun exploring numbers. This week the children have learned how to demonstrate place value using marshmallows and round cereal pieces. Here is a picture of what you would see going on in our room during math time! Check out these websites that we'll be using in the computer lab this week:

NO SCHOOL

Monday, January 16 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. School will be closed. No classes for the students. Enjoy the 3 day weekend....see everyone back on Tuesday!

SOIL CONSERVATION CONTEST

First Graders once again have the opportunity to participate in the 2012 Soil Conservation Poster Contest. The poster contest is one of many ways that we present conservation education to students in Clay County. For younger students, it often serves as an introduction to conservation and the Conservation District.

This year the theme is "Soil to Spoon". Information is being sent home today. Posters are due by Wednesday, January 25. No names are to appear on the front of the poster. The information page will need to be taped on the back of the poster. Posters need to be returned flat - no rolling the paper. Here is a link to the website where you can read about the contest. All participants will receive a prize for participation!

TECHNOLOGY THURSDAY

Brr....winter decided to come back for a visit! Hope everyone is staying warm! Here's a fun snowman story the children will play in the computer lab today. In reading we are on the last story for Unit 1.3. Skills assessed will include blends. The reading link has a good review lesson to reinforce this skill. In math the children are working on learning about Place Value. Here is a math website that will help the children practice this skill.
